病患者男 - 23歲

A few days ago I got dilating eye drops on my hands, and when I got home I didn't wash my hands and touched the bed and the furniture. now If I touch the bed and furniture and then touch my eyes, will my pupils be dilated?

Dear David,

Thanks for your inquiry.

Sorry to hear that you got dilating drops on your hands and you might have contaminated your bed and furniture. Fortunately it is unlikely that the medications will have significant effect in the event that you it does go into the eyes after direct contact.

If you are concerned, you may 1. wash the bed sheets and pillow cases, 2. wipe the furniture. The likelihood of any medication causing pupil dilation from contaminated bedding and furniture is minimal, and should that happen it would only be temporary.

If you have further questions, please contact your ophthalmologist for an appointment.

Best regards
Dr Leonard Yuen
