MRI Findings: There is avulsion bony injury with non-displaced fragment (6mm) at the tip of the lateral malleolus.
There is no marrow edema. Both anterior talofibular and calcaneofibular ligaments are diffusely swollen with sprain. There is no ligamentous laxity.
The medial supporting ligaments are intact. There is mild swelling with tendonitis of the peroneus tendon. The rest of the tendons are of normal configuration. The mortise and subtalar joints are unremarkable. The sinus tarsi is intact. The talar dome is intact without subchondral lesion or loose body. The bony alignment is normal. The Achilles tendon also appears normal. No tear or injury is noted. The muscles are of normal signals and appearance. The plantar fascia is not thickened. No focal nodule or inflammation is noted.
