I had 6 uterine fibroids
病患者女 - 29歲
Dear Dr. Fan,
As I consulted other doctor before, found that I had 6 uterine fibroids, of which 2 are 4-6CM, the others are 1-2CM. The actual size, I dont know why that doctor dont tell me, I really want to find a good doctor, but I can not find it. I do not know whether there is a need for surgery or not, I see on this site DR. Fan's evaluation is very good, but know that you won't accept new patient any more. Highly appreciated if you can give some opinions to me. Million Thanks!!!
Best Rdgs,
Brittany

Dear Brittany,
Thanks for your email. Sorry to hear that you have numerous fibroids. The most important fact is that fibroids are mostly benign and the chance of cancer is very low, irrespective of their sizes. But sad to say, they almost inevitably get bigger with time and currently there is no effective and safe long term medications to stop their growth. Whether surgery is needed depends on the symptoms. At your age, in most cases, we prefer to observe first. When time comes and surgery is required, the most appropriate choice may be taking away the fibroids alone, but there is the risk of residual fibroids being missed out and recurrence of fibroids (up to 30%). So much so, you need close monitor at this stage as your chance of future operation is high. I am not accepting new cases booking regularly as quotas are tight. You may email to me directly if you don’t mind a long waiting queue.
Best regards,
Dr. Fan
